“Bad backs, bad backs, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when he comes for you?”
AJ Hawk, a criminology major at Ohio State, was selected fifth overall by the Green Bay Packers to further shore up a sagging defense. At 6′1″, 240 pounds, he’s just two inches taller and twelve pounds heavier than Miami Dolphins’ Zack Thomas. And like Zach Thomas, he may have the same size heart, which seems to add 30 pounds and 4 inches to Thomas’ game.

His defensive stats were of the caliber of fellow alumni Chris Spielman, who had a distinguished career on an undistinguished team (the Detroit Lions), and later with the Buffalo Bills. I can recall a game where Spielman was used as a fullback against the Bears in a red zone running play - the Bears put a linebacker on Spielman, who promptly knocked the guy cold, opening a path for the touchdown. I don’t know if Hawk is as punishing a tackler, but he’s at least as athletic.
