Paraphrasing what Favre had to say on May 6th, Brett said he didn’t want to be sitting at home on Sundays, watching the Packers play, thinking - ‘Hey, I could be doing that, helping the team to win.’ He wanted to be in there, shortened intestines and all, battling with his team for each victory. Another factor - apparently the Favre family held an anonymous poll, play or no play, and ‘play’ was the unanimous winner.
Wanting to immediately get the “Favre Watch 2007″ underway, the media asked about his plans beyond the 2006 season. “Gimme a freakin’ break, would you?! - Lemme play this season and if my arms and legs are still attached and facing the right directions in February, I’ll think about it. Until then, back off!” replied Favre. (remember - paraphrasing)
Unlike last year at this time, Favre was not using an intensive physical regimen to keep his body fit and sharp. There weren’t potato chip crumbs falling off his jersey, but he didn’t come into the first minicamp as fit as he had last year (and truthfully, this is part of what made me think he was riding a big cheesy Harley into the sunset this season, instead of coming back one more time). But he still has the heart and arm - that might be enough to get the team to 6, 7 (or dare I say) 8 wins in the 2006 NFL season.
