On the eve of the home opener for the Pack I thought I’d run down my prediction for the Pack’s regular season record for 2006. I didn’t spend time on post-season predictions because, duh, the Packers will be watching that from their living rooms, just like me.
9/10 Bears @ Lambeau Field - L -Urlacher and Co. are going to put the hurt on the Pack. An interesting side story to watch: Who will score more points, the Packers offense of the Bears Defense?
9/17 Saints @ Lambeau - L - Many are saying the Saints are much improved and have a new attitude. They also have Reggie Bush and Drew Brees. I think they pull off the upset at Lambeau, 17-14.
9/24 Lions @ Ford Field - L - Favre indoors. ‘Nuff said. The Lions will uncharacteristically have a decent start to the season fueld by Rod Marinelli’s hard-nosed coaching style.
10/2 Eagles @ Lincoln Financial Field, on Monday Night Football - L - You’re kidding, right?
10/8 Rams @ Lambeau - L - Bulger is no Favre and is prone to injury, and their receivers aren’t getting any younger, but they’re still better product than what the Packers will drag onto the field.
At this point the team is 0-5. Playoffs are out of the question, Favre will be wondering why he returned, and McCarthy will start to feel the heat.
10/22 Dolphins at Pro Player Stadium - L - Nick Saban & Co at home will dismantle the Packers.
10/29 Cardinals @ Lambeau - W - Finally, a team the Packers can beat. Dennis Green is a middle-tier coach with middle/lower tier talent (Lienart is still a rookie and hasn’t done anything, yet).
11/5 Bills @ Buffalo - W - Two in a row. Fans are beginning to talk about an 8-8 season…if only they didn’t have to play the Pats, Seahawks, Jets and Bears (again).Â
11/12 Vikings @ Vikings Stadium - L - Favre indoors. Again.
11/19 Patriots @ Lambeau - L - The Pats may have lost some players in the off-season and not have the chops to make it deep into the playoffs this year, but they certainly have the tools to lay the wood to the Packers.
11/27 Seahawks @ Qwest Field - L - The Super Bowl runners up last year still remember the OT loss at Lambeau and Holmgren certainly would like to put his stamp on this game.
12/3 Jets @ Lambeau - L
12/10 San Francisco @ Monster Park - W, Thank God - another whipping boy the Packers are just tough enough to push around.
12/17 Lions @ Lambeau - W - This one was hard. The Lions will either have mutinied on Rod Marinelli and are running broken-arrow style, or they will have learned his bible, drunk his kool-aid and recruited more followers. I think the Lions are one of those teams forever destined to lose, and believe the former is more likely.
12/21 Vikings @ Lambeau - W - what is likely the last home game Favre will ever play. The large women will be throwing their lace tents onto the field, the men will be bare-chested and painted for the event.
12/31 Bears @ Soldier Field - L - The Bears will likely have nothing to play for, having wrapped up the division a few games before, but they’ll still have enough in the tanks to put a final beat-down on the Packers.
What does that give us? A 5 win, 11 loss season. Better than last year. Sort of. Anyone know if Lindy Infante is available?

[…] There were a few eyebrow-raising upsets last week. Good thing my offshore betting account was empty, otherwise I could’ve lost even more money I don’t have. But thankfully, one of the unlikely outcomes was not the Packers beating the 49ers 30-19 (just like I called it at the beginning of the football season). This week the Packers play host to Detroit, a team whose monkeys have even resisted getting beaten by them. (*Author’s note: that one might take two reads to even hint at funny.)
