This week, backup running back Samkon Gado was traded to the Houston Texans in exchange for Vernand Morency, a second string running back for the Texans. Conventional talking head wisdom is that Morency brings a greater chance for success running behind the zone blocking system than Gado does. What I’m a little confused by is, I believe the Texans are also making a big move toward zone blocking this year… so if Morency was really going to be good, the Texans would have hung onto him.

It’s a shame to see Gado go. He was the most humble of football players and seemed to be so thankful and appreciative of the chance to play in the NFL. And smart - I believe the guy is (or is almost) an M.D. I wish him well.

I do like seeing Ted Thompson not being afraid to make moves at any point in the season if he thinks it’s going to work out to our benefit. I was surprised to see this trade, but am hopeful that Morency will bring something extra to the table. He saw something in Koren Robinson (Thompson actually drafted him for the Seahawks back when that organization was his employer), but it remains to be seen if they can reign in the crazy horses that seem to drive Robinson’s life.
