Koren Robinson is coming to town.
Koren Robinson (WR) most recently was a member of the Minnesota Vikings, but was cut when he was caught drunk driving at over 100 mph while trying to make the Viking’s team curfew. This was the most recent in a string of related incidents that seem to follow Robinson everywhere he goes, no matter how fast he goes. Believe it or not, there were a few good things that came out of the game. For example, Ahman Green ran for 110 yards with only one half of a preseason game under his belt. Looks like he’s healed up nicely. Jon Ryan (our punter) has a quarterback rating of 118.8 (almost triple that of Favre’s), and was pretty consistent kicking the ball. Not a surprise since he had 6 opportunities to practice.
Ok, I guess there were only two good things that came out of yesterday’s game. Head Coach McCarthy, who is supposed to be an offense-minded guy, with the help of Jeff Jagodzinski (offensive coordinator), didn’t even get close enough to smell the red zone.
Our defensive backs, who were supposed to have gotten a big upgrade with the addition of Charles Woodson, were beaten with a stick all afternoon. So with upgrades, Bob Sanders couldn’t put together as solid a defense as Jim Bates did with lesser talent.
And the topper - the Pack hadn’t been shut out in over 200 games, and had never been shut out under Brett Favre’s direction.
So what can we learn from yesterday’s game? We weren’t imagining things during the preseason when we thought the Packers looked like boys among men. We also learned that a 16-game season might in fact be able to warp the fabric of time and feel like several calendar years.
This has the potential to be very, very ugly.

On the eve of the home opener for the Pack I thought I’d run down my prediction for the Pack’s regular season record for 2006. I didn’t spend time on post-season predictions because, duh, the Packers will be watching that from their living rooms, just like me. (more…)
