Right now I feel like I did a few times as a kid around report card time. I didn’t do all of my assignments as well as I could have. Quizzes seemed to come out of the blue, and night-before cramming was all I ever did for exams. The results reflected it.

But even so, when I was handed the report card, I would hope against all hope that when all my scores were added up it would end up in a grade that would keep me out of trouble with my folks. Maybe a nice, respectable B. Or maybe the playground gods would smile down on me and place a dense fog on the brain of my teacher, causing a heinous math error that would give me a decent grade.
