Regarding my previous post, asking which Packer team would show up, the young but learning, hungry Packer team or the rudderless team led by a few aging (dare I say crumbling?) veterans: I think we have the answer.

The Cardinals, who just a week before gave the Bears the biggest test of the season to date, looked like they were up against the Packers of the mid-90’s; forearm shivers and cleats on chests, the Packers offense going where they wanted, when they wanted.
When I was a kid, collecting baseball, football, basketball and hockey cards, there were a couple of neighborhood sharks who seemed to know who the up-and-coming players were before the rest of us, and would always be trying to work a trade to relieve us of those cards. That’s exactly how the situation looks right now between Ted Thompson and Mike Sherman. Thompson saw something in Vernand Morency, and Sherman is the talent-blind dolt who thought an even-up trade for Samkon Gado was a good deal.

And it was.

For us. Sucka!
Vernand Morency had more yards this afternoon than Gado has had all season. And not to knock Gado - I think he’s a great guy - the type of person you want to serve as a role model for your kids. But on the football field, Morency is flat out getting the job done.

And when two backs both break the 100-yard rushing mark in a game (Ahman Green had 106 yards, Morency 101), you know you’ve done something.

So what was the magic this week? Is the O-line getting a handle on zone blocking? Is the Arizona defense porous? I dunno. But this was the first fun game to watch in awhile. Seeing the old man leap into the stands after his first rushing TD since 2001 was a kick, too.

Next week they travel to Buffalo and try to build on this week’s performance.
