April 2007

With the 2007 NFL draft fast approaching, like Rocky Balboa choking down raw eggs I’ve been listening to the 107.5 The Fan mornings from 10am - 11am when I can, training for the big draft day. Drew Smith, Sports Director for the Green Bay Fox affiliate WLUK is a good listen, and it’s always interesting to hear TV guys on the radio when they’re given the chance to freelance their content instead of reading from a pre-packaged script.

But “The Rookie” is to the ears what those raw eggs are to the palette. Tastes like crap; you just hope it’s good for you, otherwise all those dry heaves were for nothing.

Toward the end of the show today a fan call came in from what I believe was a sandwich artist claiming he has a regular customer that’s “up there” in the Packer organization, and that after he filled the sandwich with unwanted ingredients, Mr. Upthere mentioned that there might be an announcement on Friday that the sandwich artist would like. When pressed for more information, Mr. Upthere declined to give anymore information, saying “That’s all I can say! But I think you’re going to like it.”

jared_fogle.jpgHaving said this to his lunchtime chef, a man whose fortunes rise and fall with the appetites of his clients, this can only mean one thing. We no longer need to search for lineman, because Subway has substituted their low-fat fare for deep fried salami and bacon sandwiches; Subway Spokesperson Jared Fogle is back up to playing weight, and he’s ready to start throwing his C-cups around.

Either that or Randy Moss is coming to Green Bay. I figure it’s a toss up between the two.

This month someone found our site when they searched for “packers touchdown song and work all day.” I have to assume they were looking for information about the unofficial Packer touchdown song.

The song is called “Bang The Drum All Day”, and it was written and recorded in 1983 by Todd Rundgren. Todd Rundgren has produced albums for many famous bands from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, but has seen lesser success as an act himself, with this song and “Hammer in my Heart” being two of the more popular songs he ever recorded. I even went to see him perform as an opening act for Shooting Star (or Peter Frampton, I can’t remember which), way back around 1980.

If you’d like the lyrics to the song, so you can sing along to all the touchdowns in the 2007 NFL season, here they are:

I dont want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day
I dont want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day

Ever since I was a tiny boy
I dont want no candy
I dont need no toy
I took a stick and an old coffee can
I bang on that thing til I got
Blisters on my hand because

When I get older they think Im a fool
The teacher told me I should stay after school
She caught me pounding on the desk with my hands
But my licks was so hot
I made the teacher wanna dance
And thats why

Listen to this
Every day when I get home from work
I feel so frustrated
The boss is a jerk
And I get my sticks and go out to the shed
And I pound on that drum like it was the bosss head
Because

I can bang that drum
Hey, you wanna take a bang at it?
I can do this all day

And if you’d like to listen to a clip of the song, you can do it here.

Rock on, my brothers!

The 2007 Green Bay Packer schedule is out and it looks like a keeper. They’ll be playing 6 teams that made the 2006 playoffs, including the now-Schottenheimerless San Diego Chargers.

favre_6-legged_turkey.jpgThey’ll also be playing the Lions on Thanksgiving. I try to keep my regrets to a minimum, but the one I have about that game is that John Madden won’t be calling it. I love the six-legged turkeys.

Ok, enough jibber-jabber. Here’s the 2007 Regular Season Green Bay Packers schedule:
