Favre Retires! Favre Retires!I don’t know if this will hit the national wires, but yesterday at Packers.com, the official site of your Green Bay Packers, a news release was posted announcing Brett Favre’s retirement.

The Packers front office claims it was a goof, with the people providing the web content just prepping for either outcome of the Brett Favre toin coss. The entry, which includes body text that says, simply

text

would appear to corroborate that story.  The announcement was taken down shortly after it appeared.  But it made the headlines of every local network this morning.

Bus Cook, Favre’s agent, claims Favre has not yet made a decision.

But you have to admit, it’s a darn fine way to put some logs under that fire.

In a move that had some people stuttering, Ted Thompson cut Bubba Franks loose just a couple days ago. Sure, we were in it to Donald Lee for millions, and yeah, Bubba had been injured for what seemed like the better part of the last three seasons, but somehow I always kinda felt Bubba would be around for awhile longer. The excellent blocking, the nipple-twist thing when he scored touchdowns. Vintage Bubba. I’m gonna miss him.mushmouth.gif

It looks like Mike McCarthy will be fielding questions like “Were you looking at/talking to me?” for another five years.

As is no surprise, the man who led the Green Bay Packers to a team record-tying 13-3 regular season finish and took them to within a field goal from the Superbowl got a five year contract extension yesterday, reportedly worth $4 million per year.

For reference, Wade Phillips, the Dallas Cowboys head coach, is in the $3M per year neighborhood.
