It’s time.

I’m getting updated emails that are using advanced calculus to describe to me the chances the Packers have for making the playoffs this year.

In two consecutive weeks the Packers were in a good position going into a minute and a half left in the game, the opposition with the ball, asses nearly rubbing on their endzone. All the Packers needed to do was hold on one series. Four plays. Instead, both times the opponent was in position to score with plenty of time left, jogging down the field just like their walk-throughs a few hours earlier.

And before that was the New Orleans game. The Packers were able to match the Saints offensive production score for score, and then instead of two stallions racing neck and neck to the finish, the Packers threw a shoe and started putting up field goals to the Saints touchdowns. Then the Saints started scoring points the Packers had no answer for. And then, did you know that Spike TV was airing the second Star Wars trilogy?

Better viewing than the game, anyway.

So now, there’s really only one game that needs to be circled on the calendar.  The season finale, at home, against Detroit.  Detroit will likely enter the game 0-15 and be willing to throw everything at the Packers just to avoid future history from referencing the 2008 Lions every year a team starts the season 0-4.  And the Packers will long have since been eliminated from the playoff picture and be looking forward to tee times at munis in warmer climates.

But if the Packers lose to the 0-15 Lions, things are gonna be ugly around here all winter long.  Questions about Ted Thompson (as if he needs anymore reason to have questions asked about him).  Questions about McCarthy.  About the D coordinator Sanders.  About special teams.  About how we could fall to a team that couldn’t beat anyone else, all season long.  It’ll be nothing less than humiliating.

So Mike?  Forget about the Jags.

Forget about the Bears.

Start prepping now for the Lions.  Now.
