One of you isn’t going to be here come September.

I haven’t been listening to the radio at all today to know what the local sports talking heads have to say about it, but Ted Thompson announced that the Green Bay Packers have signed free agent Anthony Smith (Safety).

Unless the new 3-4 defense Capers is said to be installing includes five safeties, somebody’s going to be out of a job in the near future. And didn’t I hear something about Woodson potentially being moved to safety, too?

According to the Packers website, here’s who we have at safety today:

Atari Bigby - Lays wood like John Holmes, but all the bulbs do not light up on his tree.  Dumb plays at dumb times have cost the Packers in extending opposing team drives due to penalties.

Who?Charlie Peprah - Reading Charlie’s website he seems to think he’s a pretty important part of the team (”Pep and Packers Hold Off Vikings” - yeah, good thing we got those two tackles from Pep), but before I actually looked through the roster, I’d never heard of him.  Too bad, really.  He’s even got his own gear to sell you.

Nick Collins - Did someone say gamebreaker?  Backbreaker?  Heartbreaker?  Nah, dude has fuzzy pumper barber shop hair.  Good thing they didn’t stuff his ears with the pink clay.  But lettuce aside, in 2008 I only remember Collins name being yelled in falsetto.  As in “Holy SHIT!  Collins just got another pick and he’s gonna take it in for the scoooooore!”  Maybe I’ll start calling him “Nickle” Collins, ‘cuz he’s been money.  Not a lot of money, but in these tough economic times, even a Nickle can make a difference.

Aaron Rouse - Had a couple picks, one long one for a touchdown, but it seems like the main thing I remember about Rouse is that as DB’s were getting injured people were excited to see what Rouse would do, and then he did a little, and then we didn’t see him much after that.  And come to think of it, he’s got Play-Doh hair, too.  Aaron - look to your left and right - are the other safeties looking at you?

Because I can’t see the Packers carrying 5 safeties into game 1 of the 2009 season.
